We are pleased to announce Kiyoshi Tatsukawa’s solo show “HYSTERIC GLAMOUR 1988-1989” at POETIC SCAPE from September 21 to November 5. This is the second show of Kiyoshi Tatsukawa at POETIC SCAPE since his show “QUAU in photo” in 2015.
In the late 1980s, Nobuhiko Kitamura, designer of HYSTERIC GLAMOUR met a photographer Kiyoshi Tatsukawa who was very active in fashion photography. The plan they made for the shooting of 1988-89 season was quite challenging,
The shooting carried out with sometimes involving people on the street. The images finally printed on the huge rough paper, handed out to public. Kitamura had been looking for the nest action which beyond ordinary fashion photos. This project became an important trigger for him to move forward to publish the series of photo books “Hysteric” in 1991. In this exhibition, 8 photographic prints, video footage of the actual photo shooting, and the original handout which made in 1988 will be shown at the gallery.

Born in 1948 in Ehime Prefecture, Kiyoshi Tatsukawa graduated from the Department of Photography at Nihon University College of Art in 1972.
He began his career as a photographer while still a student, contributing to prominent magazines such as Ryuko Tsushin. Throughout his career, he has maintained a prolific personal practice, exhibiting widely and participating in significant collective projects. Between 1977 and 1979, he co-published the photography journal “GRAIN” alongside fellow photographers of his generation, including Kozo Miyoshi and Taishi Hirokawa. He was also deeply involved in “QUAU in photo,” a long-term project with the late sculptor Hiroshi Mikami, which resulted in numerous exhibitions.
