DAIDO SLIDE
Daido Moriyama

This book was produced following the rediscovery, a quarter-century later, of the film projected as a slide show in the 1999 exhibition Daido Moriyama: Stray Dog at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition later traveled across the United States and Europe, marking a pivotal moment that propelled Moriyama onto the international stage.
The volume includes 140 works that Moriyama himself selected and printed on slide film in 1999. Editing, book design, and publishing were overseen by Japan’s leading book designer, Satoshi Machiguchi.
For the cover, Moriyama’s iconic Stray Dog, Misawa was chosen, with two variations created—positive and negative prints—symbolizing the dual versions of the work that have existed since it was first photographed in Misawa, Aomori in 1971 and subsequently gained recognition worldwide.
The book also features essays (in English) by four internationally renowned curators reflecting on their encounters with Moriyama. In addition, Moriyama himself responds to each of these episodes, sharing rare insights and recollections (also in English).
As a special feature of the Japanese release, a supplementary booklet is included, providing complete Japanese translations of these texts.
