2025/9/16

The 36th São Paulo Biennale opened on September 6, 2025 under the theme “Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice.” Mao Ishikawa is presenting approximately 40 works, including signature series such as Red Flower (Akabanaa): The Women of Okinawa, Life in Philly, and Uchinaa Shibai (Okinawan Play).

On the eve of the opening, a symposium co-organized by Japan House São Paulo, the Taguchi Art Collection, and the Biennale was held. At this event, Eriko Kimura, Director of the Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art, introduced Ishikawa’s work to an engaged audience.

The Biennale, one of the most significant contemporary art exhibitions in the world, will be on view through January 11, 2026.
