Mao Ishikawa "Whitney Biennial 2026"

2025/12/16

We are pleased to announce that Mao Ishikawa has been selected for the Whitney Biennial 2026, which will open on May 8, 2026, at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

The Whitney Biennial, now in its eighty-second edition, is the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States. The 2026 edition will present works by 56 artists, duos, and collectives, offering a broad view of contemporary American art shaped by a time of significant transition.

Rather than providing definitive answers, the exhibition focuses on atmosphere and sensibility, presenting works that evoke tension, intimacy, humor, and unease. Through diverse artistic approaches, the Biennial reflects the complexity of the present and explores new and unexpected forms of coexistence.

Mao Ishikawa’s participation strongly resonates with and embodies the central themes of the exhibition, contributing a perspective grounded in lived experience, social reality, and sustained engagement with human relationships.
